I caught my 2-year-old daughter in the bathroom with my make up bag open. Thankfully, she was putting on blush and had not made it to the mascara yet. My 3-year-old daughter asked to have a salad for lunch. She ate approximately 2 bites and has not asked for one since, but baby steps, right? My baby boy was getting a dirty diaper change and as my older son walked by, he looked down and said “winner, winner, chicken dinner”. That’s definitely a phrase I need to stop saying immediately. I’ve realized recently that my children are picking up EVERYTHING I’m laying down, and it scares me.
Our children see our kindness to others, but they also see our eye roll when our husbands say something ridiculous. Our family hears our angry words when we’re cut off in traffic. They watch us bring a meal to a neighbor or watch us avoid our neighbors. These moments can be used as intentional teaching opportunities to our children (and husbands) of what a Godly woman looks like.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her”– Proverbs 31:28
Your children and/or husband are watching you. What traits and habits are you unintentionally leaving around to be picked up? Be intentional today by loving God and loving people even when they don’t deserve it.
