Why is it that 3-year old girls have such strong opinions about their outfits? My 3-year old daughter walked happily down the stairs wearing her favorite short sleeve shirt and sparkly skirt. When she hit the platform, she confidently did a pirouette obviously expecting a compliment on her outfit choice. In her defense, she did a pretty good job matching the pieces together, but there was just one problem….it was 42 degrees outside. I complimented her outfit, but told her it was too cold to wear it outside. Because she lives in a comfortable 73 degrees all the time, she was oblivious to the weather changes. Even when she realized how cold it was outside, she still continued to protest. She would rather keep her outfit on and stay comfortably inside than change to go outside. She was even willing to change her day’s activities to stay inside at the house!
The truth is we all like to be comfortable. And just like my daughter, we value our comfort over the inconvenience and sometimes painful process of changing to get us ready for ‘the outside world’. Leaving our comfortable 73 degrees and entering 42 degrees wouldn’t seem as drastic if we would allow God to change us before we left our comfort zone. He would no doubt give us a spiritual jacket and pants outfit.
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” – Ephesians 6:13
At some point, we all have to leave our comfort zones. Pray and ask God to change you now for whatever is to come in your future. When you ask God to change you, expect Him to change you. Thank Him for loving you enough to equip you with spiritual armor for the world.
How encouraging! I’m leaving my comfort zone at the moment and there are probably a bunch of sparkly miniskirts that I need to change too…
Good for you for leaving your comfort zone! That’s fantastic!!
