My children took turns every night for a month to potty, have a bad dream or be sick. One night, even the dog woke me up to potty, which convinced me it was a planned mutiny against mommy sleeping. Lying in bed exhausted, I prayed for sleep. When I woke up rested, I was floored God had answered my prayer with a “Yes!” He had answered prayers in the past, but this time I was shocked. Why? Because I placed needing sleep in the prayer category of “unworthy of God’s time”, but He honored my request anyways.
What keeps us from giving ALL our prayers to God? Fear He won’t answer? Unsure the request is worthy of God’s time? Feeling like we can handle it ourselves? We have all thought these things, but it humanizes God. When we humanize God, we place limitations on Him that He never placed on Himself.
“The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” – Psalm 37:23
Don’t get me wrong…God is not a genie just waiting to serve your every request. But He is a loving father who wants to be involved in every detail of your life. Thank God for a personal relationship with Him. Think about something you’re withholding from Him and ask Him to take control over it.
And, “He grants sleep to those He loves” Ps 127:2
