I’m a stay at home mom. My 5-year-old son told me he wished I could go to work and daddy could stay home. My husband is an amazing guy and daddy, but it was still like a dagger to the heart. And yes I’m dramatic. When I asked my son why, he simply said it was because he wanted to watch some more things on T.V. with daddy. The very next sentence out of my son’s mouth was, “Mommy, I need you to do something for me….”.
So let me get this straight? You tell me you want someone else and then expect me to serve you immediately after you hurt my feelings? Side note: I did honor his request because I love him.
This situation got me started thinking that even as adults we’re actually not much different from our 5 year olds. We give God our divided attention but we still expect things from Him. He wants our undivided attention even if He never gives us anything else.
Matthew 23:37 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Yes, this is easier said than done, but let’s begin with a thankful heart. Maybe tomorrow I’ll tackle the soul and mind, but today I am thankful even if He doesn’t give me anything at all.
