I Get Intimidated Easily

By: Lyndsay Crews

I enjoy meeting new people. However, I get intimidated easily. For example: I picked up my kids from their new preschool. I took a quick assessment of other moms, and then I made an even quicker decision if we could be friends or not. I shamefully based my entire judgment on appearance. One mom in particular wore a coordinated athletic outfit, her hair flowed perfectly down her back and somehow she found time to apply make up. She was way too put together for me and my mess….not to mention I sweat like a man and didn’t have time to shower after my work out before preschool pick up. Because she intimidated me, I didn’t want to initiate conversation with her.  I lack boldness. And in talking with people about my faith, I really lack boldness.

The intimidating well-put-together mom needs to know about God’s love too and He has put her in our path. Do we lack the faith that God will actually give us the words to say or are we fearful of rejection? Why do we lack boldness? Over and over again, God shows us that he doesn’t need the rich, famous or ‘put together’ person to show others who He is; He just needs someone who is willing.

“The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.” – Acts 4:13

This verse is encouraging because we are ordinary people with no special training who ‘have been’ with Jesus. And God wants to use us. Let’s pray and ask for God to give us boldness in speaking with others. Everyone needs God’s love and we need to show our children that God is bigger than our fears.
