Little fun fact about me…I’m a NBA junkie. (pro basketball) We live near the Charlotte Hornets stadium and I’m always scheming to attend a live event. Last season, I took my 4-year-old daughter to a game. Ya know, starting her early. (wink wink) On the way home, I asked her what her favorite part of the game was. She said, without hesitation, “The Honeybees”. (They Honeybees are the dance team of the Hornets basketball team.) Really?!?! Even thought I spent time, money and effort to help ignite a love of basketball, she is wired to love dance. I’ll be honest, I never saw that one coming.
Isn’t it amazing how different our children’s personality can be even in the same family? One likes dance, one likes basketball, one is extroverted, one is introverted, one is a rule follower, one is NOT a rule follower, etc. God took time to create each child uniquely so we must learn to parent individually. We should consider changing what we say to our kids from, “You can be whatever you want to be.” to “You can be whatever God has created you to be.” It’s subtle, but it places God as the leader of their future instead of us.
“But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.” – 1 Corinthians 12:18
Let’s do something our child enjoys today even if it’s “not our thing”. Pray to thank God for entrusting you as a momma and ask for wisdom on how to be the best parent for your child.
